Approaches to Autism, Season 3, Episode 1: The Bernstein Cognitive Method for Autism

Robert J. Bernstein, US Autism Association Advisory Board member, discusses his Bernstein Cognitive Method for Autism with Dr. Stephen Shore and Dr. Marcia Eckerd, moderated by Dr. Marlo Thurman. The goal of this developmental cognitive approach is to help individuals be able to live in the world and connect with the people in it as themselves. Bernstein believes that whatever he does therapeutically must be on the individual’s terms; they must lead. Part of the beauty of this method is its simplicity as it works with children in their everyday environments, so it's readily accessible.
